Aberdeen's geography and climate

Aberdeen City in Scotland gives students inspiring coastal views of the North Sea.Surfing near North Sea oil and gas fieldsTo the west of Aberdeen stretches Royal Deeside, the valley of the River Dee. To the east is a coastline of sandy beaches and the North Sea. It's about a half-hour drive from Union Street in the city to rolling hills and countryside.

Aberdeen is the UK's coldest city, though not as chilly as one might expect given this title. The average daily maximum is 11.8°C (53.2°F) and minimum is 4.7°C (40.5°F).

During the winter, especially in December, the length of the day is short, to as brief as 6 hours and 40 minutes. Around summer solstice, the days extend to almost 18 hours long.

The University of Aberdeen has a campus at King's College, about a mile north of the city, and at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, which is a 10-minute bus journey.

The Robert Gordon University is based at Garthdee, about 2 miles south of the city.
