A popular town with a modern university

Guildford, which is the county town of Surrey, is south-west of London just off the road from London to Portsmouth. It a popular place to visit, live and study and has high property values. The granite-cobbled High Street contains brand retailers and department stores and is particularly busy when street markets are held on Fridays and Saturdays.

Guildford also has a major sports centre - Guildford Spectrum - that is the venue for much of the sporting activity in the area. It contains pools, ten-pin bowling, a laser tag zone, ice rink, athletics track and indoor sports halls. It is also home to several sports clubs, including local football, volleyball and hockey teams.

University of Surrey

The university has two campuses within a mile of each other, with the main campus very close to Guildford city centre. The Surrey Sports Park is on the university's second campus and provides facilities to rival the Guildford Spectrum centre. This includes a 50-metre pool, three sports halls, squash centre, fitness facilities, cricket pitches and tennis courts. The 1,000 seat indoor arena is home to the Guildford Heat basketball team.

The University of Surrey also effectively has another campus in China. The Surrey International Institute-DUFE is a joint academic partnership institution between the University of Surrey and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics.

The academic activities of the university are divided into four faculties: Arts & Human Sciences; Business, Economics and Law; Engineering and Physical Sciences; and Health and Medical Sciences. The university has 15,055 students, a large number of whom (4,610) are international students (i.e. from outside the UK).

The University of Surrey provides accommodation for about a third of students, with 5,129 university/college beds. There is a wide range of offerings from low-budget to luxury. However, a fairly standard package costs around £4,000 for the academic year.

The university has a high course satisfaction rating of 4.6 / 5.0. Tuition fees for international students start at £12,735 per year.
