Leeds geography and climate

Around two-thirds of the Leeds district is green belt land and the city centre is less than twenty miles from the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Leeds' climate is oceanic. Summers are usually mild, with moderate rainfall. Winters are chilly, generally cloudy and with occasional snow and frost. The average daily maximum is 12.6°C (54.6°F) and minimum is 4.9°C (40.9°F).

The main campus of the University of Leeds is within walking distance of both the city centre and Headingley, a popular residential area for students wanting to live off campus. Leeds Metropolitan University is based in the city centre across a growing number of locations.
